The matter was being investigated by the Cyber Police Station, Rohini, Delhi, under an FIR.

Further allegations reveal that the accused had issued a notice to the complainant’s brother-in-law, who joined the investigation. During their appearance, the accused allegedly threatened to arrest them. On March 7, 2025, the accused visited the complainant’s residence in Navi Mumbai and demanded a bribe of ₹50 lakh to clear their names from the investigation, threatening arrest if the demand was not met. The next day, on March 8, 2025, the accused met the complainant at a hotel in Ghodbunder Road, Mumbai, where he reiterated his demand for a bribe, specifying an amount of ₹16 lakh on his mobile phone. The accused also allegedly threatened the complainant with consequences if the bribe was not paid.

Following negotiations, the accused agreed to accept ₹14 lakh and provided the complainant with details of the hawala operators involved. The complainant was given the hawala token number and the contact information of the Mumbai-based hawala operator to whom the bribe money was to be delivered
