Delhi Court Seeks report from Police on Complaint against Anurag Thakur, Parvesh Verma’s hate speech

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vishal Ahuja of the Rouse Avenue Court Complex today granted the Delhi Crime branch 15 days to conclude its enquiry in the hate speech complaint against BJP leaders Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Sahib Singh. On a complaint filed by CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat.
Pursuant to the complaint, earlier this month the Court had sought the Action Taken Report (ATR) from the DCP, New Delhi the Delhi Police in its status report mentioned that the crime branch is looking at the complaint which is being monitored by the special Commissioner of Police the application was filed under Section 156(3) CrPc.
The complainants sought a direction to the Parliament Street Police station to register a FIR against Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma for commission of offences under sections 153A/153B/295A/298/504/506 of the Indian Penal Code,1860.
The Court had rejected the demand for 8 weeks by citing the current matter as ‘sensitive ‘Therefore, the Crime Branch has to file a detailed report within 15 days stating whether the FIR should be lodged against the aforesaid BJP leaders or not.
On January 29, the Election Commission had issued a show-cause notice to Union minister Anurag Thakur for his “Desh Ke Ghadaroon Ko” slogan.
The Commission had states in its notice that the slogan has prima facie, and had the “potential of disturbing communal harmony “and the BJP MP had violated the Model Code of Conduct and electoral law.
The case is listed for 26, Feb 2020. The Court in its direction asked Crime Branch to expedite inquiry and submit report by Feb 26.
