Daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Petitions Delhi HC To Remove Unfounded & Aggressive Personal Attacks on Social Media

Daughter of the Lok Sabha Speaker Anjali Birla, an IRPS aspirant has knocked the Delhi High Court seeking the removal of social media poststhat falsely alleged she passed the UPSC exams on her first attempt due to her father’s influence.
She has submitted in her petition that she is Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS), officer.
The plea was mentioned before Justice Navin Chawla for urgent listing by Senior Advcoate Rajiv Nayar.
She asserted that all allegations on social media are defamatory and entirely false.
Anjali has further submitted that “permanent and mandatory injunction and damages in her favour and against the Defendants for defaming the Plaintiff (and also being an active paiticipant in dissemination) and to protect and enforce the fundamental right to privacy of the Plaintiff. This suit is also being instituted to restrain the Defendants from misappropriating and disparaging the name and image of the Plaintiff and members of her family, with a sinister plan to spread false and distasteful information at the cost of the reputation of the Plaintiff and her father Shri Om Birla, the Hon’ble Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha of India.”Top of Form
In several media posts people have alleged that Anjali Birla is a model by profession. But due to her father’s powerfull position she managed to clear the UPSC exams in her first attempt.
Anjali claimed that all Social-media handles are being operated in a pre-planned conspiracy and guided by oblique motive of defaming, belittling, injuring and aspersing the credibility, repute, goodwill, character and standing of her along with her father.
She has made X (Twitter), Google and John Doe (Unknown people) party to her suit and sought take down of all those posts from all social media platforms.
She sought relief and demanded all the 16 accounts mentioned in the plea to be directed to remove the post.
It is also mentioned that she is not an IAS officer but is an IRPS officer. She Appeared and cleared UPSC exam in 2019 and joined the commission in April 2021.last year she completed her compulsayr training.
Anjali said that she is being character assassinated who is holding a public office is causing damage to their reputation as the posts, tweets, comments are full of innuendos, cheap remarks and serious imputations on character and standing.
This is solely being done to spread a false narrative amongst the masses that Plaintiff did not clear the UPSC Exams on merits but due to the position held by her father. The frivolous tweets, comments, posts and statements on social media platforms are also aimed at somehow connecting the Plaintiffs UPSC result to the alleged NEET Examination, 2024 paper leak which are not even remotely related to each other in any sense whatsoever.
The petition has been filed through Advocates Sanyam Ketharpal and Aditya Manubarwala.
