Collegium Recommends Appointment of Two Lawyers, One Judicical Officer As Telangana High Court Judges

The Apex Court has recommended the appointment of one judicial officer and two layers as judges of the Telangana High Court.
The judicial official recommended is Sujana Kalasikam while the Advocates are Laxminarayan Alishetty and Anil Kumar Jukanti.
As per the resolution of the collegium the judicial officer belongs to a backward category and the name was recommended for elevation on October,23, 2022.
The Chief Justice of the High Court for the State of Telangana in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues made the recommendation on 22 December 2022. The Chief Minister and the Governor for the State of Telangana have concurred in the recommendation.
The resolution further said that In terms of the Memorandum of Procedure, we have consulted Judges of the Supreme Court who are conversant with the affairs of the High Court for the State of Telangana in order to ascertain the suitability of the above-named candidates for elevation to the High Court.
The Collegium also noted that the proposal of Kalasikam’s name would result in non-recommendation of some senior judicial officers.
The Supreme Court Collegium said in terms of the Memorandum of Procedure, we have consulted Judges of the Supreme Court who are conversant with the affairs of the High Court for the State of Telangana in order to ascertain the suitability of the above-named candidates for elevation to the High Court.
It, therefore, considered it fir to recommend Kalasikam for appointment of Telangana High Court.
The Collegium observed that the two advocates, the High Court Collegium had recommended their elevation in December, 2022.The Apex Court Collegium noted that both the lawyers enjoyed a good standing at the bar and proposed domain expertise across matters. Further, the consultee judges
Shri Laxminarayana Alishetty the Collegium said thatwe have considered the opinion of the consultee – Judges and the observations made by the Department of Justice in the file. The inputs provided in the file indicate that he enjoys a good personal and professional image and nothing adverse has come to notice with regard to his integrity. He has twenty six years of standing at the Bar and has specialization in writ litigation, arbitration and civil and commercial litigation. He has a good professional income which reflects on his extensive practice at the Bar. His appointment would add to the representation of the OBC category on the Bench of the High Court.
Having regard to the material on record and all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Shri Laxminarayana Alishetty is deserving and suitable for being appointed as Judge of the High Court for the State of Telangana.
Further the Supreme Court collegium said that Shri Anil Kumar Jukanti
We have perused the opinion of the consultee-judges and the observations made in the file. The inputs provided by the Government in the file indicate that he enjoys a good personal and professional image and nothing adverse has come to notice with regard to his integrity. The candidate has put in more than twenty years of practice at the Bar. He has appeared in matters relating to taxation, civil and criminal law, service law and constitutional cases with specialization in taxation. Our consultee-colleagues have found him suitable for appointment as a Judge of the High Court.
Shri Anil Kumar Jukanti the Collegium said that we have perused the opinion of the consultee-judges and the observations made in the file. The inputs provided by the Government in the file indicate that he enjoys a good personal and professional image and nothing adverse has come to notice with regard to his integrity. The candidate has put in more than twenty years of practice at the Bar. He has appeared in matters relating to taxation, civil and criminal law, service law and constitutional cases with specialization in taxation. Our consultee-colleagues have found him suitable for appointment as a Judge of the High Court. Having regard to the above, the Collegium is of the considered view that Shri Anil Kumar Jukanti is suitable for being appointed as Judge of the High Court for the State of Telangana
