Coimbatore Double Murder Case: Apex Court Dismisses Review Plea, death row convict to be hanged

In a majority Judgement of 2:1, a bench headed by Justice R.F.Nariman, said there are no grounds to review their verdict upholding the death penality of convict Manoharan.
The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a plea filed by a death row convict seeking review of its verdict affirming capital punishment imposed on him for “horribly” gang raping a minor girl and killing her along with her brother in Coimbatore in 2010.
On August 1, the court had awarded Manoharan death Penalty for the heinous crime along with a co-accused.
The apex court upheld the verdicts of trial court and the Madras High Court to award death penalty to the convict saying that the offence fell under rarest of the rare category.
On November 7,2012, the trial court sentenced Manoharan to death which was later confirmed by the Madras High Court on March 24,2014. Manoharan Filed an Appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the judgement.The appeal was heard by a bench of Justices comprising Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Sanjeev Khanna.
