New Delhi,4, April, 2025.The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has effectively facilitated the return of two fugitives, Suhail Basheer and Tofik Najir Khan, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through INTERPOL channels. Both individuals are sought by Indian law enforcement agencies, specifically the Kerala Police and Gujarat Police, respectively. On April 2, 2025, the International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) of the CBI, in collaboration with the National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abu Dhabi and the Kerala Police, successfully repatriated Suhail Basheer, who was the subject of a Red Notice. The Kerala Police escort team accompanied the fugitive back to India, arriving at Cochin International Airport. The CBI had previously located Basheer in the UAE through diligent monitoring and coordination with INTERPOL. Suhail Basheer is wanted by the Kerala Police in connection with a case (Crime No. 1319/2023) registered at the Muvattupuzha Police Station in the Ernakulam Rural District of Kerala. He faces serious allegations of raping a minor girl under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act and had been evading arrest since the case was filed. The CBI issued a Red Notice for him on December 2, 2024, at the request of the Kerala Police. In a separate development, the IPCU of the CBI also coordinated with NCB-Abu Dhabi to secure the return of Tofik Najir Khan, another individual subject to a Red Notice. He is wanted by the Gujarat Police for his involvement in a criminal conspiracy related to forgery and cheating, as per a case registered at the Bavlu Police Station in Mehsana District, Gujarat. Tofik Najir Khan was repatriated from the UAE to India on April 2, 2025, and was subsequently handed over to the Gujarat Police team. The CBI had published a Red Notice for him on February 25, 2025, following a request from the Gujarat Police. Red Notices issued by INTERPOL are disseminated to law enforcement agencies worldwide, aiding in the tracking and apprehension of wanted individuals. CBI as the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India, coordinates with all Law Enforcement Agencies in India through BHARATPOL for assistance via INTERPOL channels. More than 100 wanted criminals have been returned to India in last few years through coordination via INTERPOL channels.
