New Delhi/Jaipur, April 11, 2025 – In a major breakthrough, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Rajesh Kumar Meena, the prime accused in a massive ₹11 crore coin fraud case, who had been evading law enforcement for over three years. Meena, formerly serving as a Cashier/Cash Officer at the State Bank of India (SBI), Branch Office Mehandipur Balaji in Karauli district, Rajasthan, was apprehended on April 9, 2025, from Village Bhesina, Tehsil Weir, District Bharatpur.

The arrest marks a significant development in one of the most high-profile embezzlement cases involving public sector banking in Rajasthan.

The case, originally registered as FIR No. 370/2021 at Police Station Todabhim, District Karauli, was taken over by the CBI on April 13, 2022, following the directions of the Hon’ble Rajasthan High Court, Jaipur Bench. This followed a writ petition filed by the State Bank of India through its Controlling Office in Region Sawai Madhopur.

During the initial investigation, the CBI uncovered a complex web of fraudulent activities cantered around the misappropriation of coin currency worth approximately ₹11 crore. Rajesh Kumar Meena was identified as the principal conspirator, allegedly responsible for orchestrating the fraud in collusion with other bank officials.

The agency filed a detailed chargesheet on April 8, 2025, against Meena and several other bank personnel under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act. However, Meena remained at large and consistently evaded summons and notices issued during the course of the probe.

After months of coordinated surveillance and intelligence gathering, CBI sleuths traced Meena to his hideout in Bharatpur district. He was taken into custody and presented before the Hon’ble Special Judge for CBI Cases-01, Jaipur, who has remanded him to five days of police custody for further interrogation and investigation.

The CBI continues its probe to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and identify additional beneficiaries or collaborators in this large-scale financial fraud. Authorities have also hinted at the possibility of more arrests in the coming weeks.
