New Delhi 9 June-2025- In a major crackdown on corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended the Superintendent of CGST, Amroha, along with a Tax Advocate, while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1,00,000. This amount was reportedly the first instalment of a total ₹4 lakh demanded as illegal gratification.
The operation was initiated after the CBI registered a case on June 9, 2025, based on a complaint filed by a businessman who manages a private family-run company. According to the complaint, the accused had solicited the bribe in exchange for favourable official action.
Further investigation is underway. A complaint was filed alleging that the accused Superintendent had issued a penalty notice to the complainant’s family-owned private company due to non-filing of GST returns. It was further alleged that both accused individuals demanded an undue advantage of ₹4 lakhs from the complainant in exchange for waiving the penalty imposed on the company.
The accused is currently serving as Superintendent, CGST, Gajrola, with additional responsibilities as Superintendent, CGST, Amroha. The Tax Advocate, representing the complainant, allegedly conspired with the Superintendent, CGST, Amroha, and exerted pressure on the complainant to fulfil the undue demand of ₹4 lakhs.
Acting on this information, the CBI conducted a sting operation and apprehended both accused individuals in the act. Concurrently, searches are being carried out at their premises in Amroha and Gajrola, Uttar Pradesh. The investigation remains ongoing.
