The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended two officials, including a contractual Junior Engineer (JE) and a Mate from the Cantonment Board in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant.

On October 22, 2024, CBI registered a case against the Mate after receiving allegations that he sought an undue advantage of Rs 15,000 for issuing an allotment letter necessary for lifting wood auctioned by the Cantonment Board for Rs 1,37,500.

In a swift operation, CBI officials caught the Mate red-handed as he accepted the bribe. A subsequent controlled call implicated the JE, leading to his arrest as well. Both officials are set to be presented in court on October 23, 2024, as CBI continues its investigation with ongoing searches at various locations.
