7, June 2024, New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a significant step today, June 7, 2024, by filing a final charge-sheet under various sections of the IPC and the PC Act of 1988 against 78 individuals. This includes the former Union Railway Minister, his wife, son, and daughter, as well as officials from Indian Railways and other private individuals. The charge-sheet comes as a result of directives from the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge (PC Act) (MP/MLA Cases), Rouse Avenue Courts, New Delhi, in connection with the Land-For-Job Scam.
The case revolves around the alleged engagement of candidates as Group D substitutes in 11 zones of Indian Railways during the tenure of Sh. Lalu Prasad Yadav as Union Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009. It is revealed through investigations that the former Minister, along with Railway officials, family members, and others, conspired to appoint candidates in violation of guidelines. These appointments were allegedly secured through the transfer of land by candidates or their families and the submission of fake educational certificates.
Of particular note is that the candidates appointed were predominantly from districts long associated with the former Minister and his family members. However, it’s essential to remember that these findings are based on CBI’s investigation and evidence collected by them. According to Indian law, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law after a fair trial.
