(Judicial Quest News Network)
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered a significant bribery network operating within the Western Railway Department, involving two senior IRPS officers and several other officials, in connection with the Railway Departmental Examination. Six individuals have been arrested, including two IRPS officers, a Deputy Chief Commercial Manager, a Deputy Station Superintendent, a Nursing Superintendent, and a private person, all implicated in the collection of substantial bribes to favour candidates in the Limited Departmental Examination.
A series of searches were conducted at 11 locations, including residential and official premises in Vadodara, Gujarat. During these raids, investigators recovered 650 grams of gold, approximately Rs. 5 lakh in cash, electronic devices, and other incriminating documents. The investigation revealed that the accused officers, in collusion with the private person, were soliciting money from candidates in exchange for promising them selection in the upcoming railway examination.
The case was registered on February 18, 2025, following allegations that the Divisional Personnel Officer directed the Deputy Chief Commercial Manager to compile a list of at least ten candidates willing to pay bribes for their selection. The Deputy Chief Commercial Manager, in turn, worked with the Deputy Station Superintendent and the private individual to collect the illicit payments. Furthermore, the Deputy Chief Commercial Manager was found to have facilitated the purchase of gold from a jeweller in Vadodara, bypassing invoices, as part of the illegal transaction.
During the course of the investigation, a Nursing Superintendent was intercepted with 650 grams of gold, which had been purchased by the accused from the jeweller for approximately Rs. 57 lakh, intended for the Sr. Divisional Personnel Officer.
All arrested individuals are scheduled to be produced before the CBI Special Court No. 7 in Ahmedabad today. The investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected in this high-profile case.
