The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four individuals, including a General Manager (GM) from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and three executives from a private company, following the exchange of a bribe worth Rs. 15 lakhs. The accused were caught red-handed for taking and giving illegal gratification in exchange for facilitating and fast-tracking payments related to NHAI contract works.
The arrests were made after the CBI set a trap and intercepted the bribery transaction at a prearranged location near Patna on March 22, 2025. Along with the immediate arrests, extensive searches were conducted at various locations including Patna, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Begusarai, Purnia, Ranchi, and Varanasi. The raids uncovered a massive haul of approximately Rs. 1.18 crore in cash, along with incriminating documents and digital evidence.
This operation is part of a larger investigation into a complex bribery scheme involving multiple public servants and private company officials. The CBI had registered a case against 12 individuals, including six senior NHAI officials, a private company, and several of its high-ranking employees, accusing them of conspiring to exchange illegal favours for bribe payments.
The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests and recoveries are expected.
