CBI Arrests Chief Engineer of Indian Railways Recovers 2.19 Cr Cash; 4 Persons Arrested in Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Chief Engineer (Electrical); a Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer, a Director of a Private Company & his employee in an on-going investigation of a bribery case.
Searches were conducted at nine locations including at Guwahati, Patna, Noida etc at the premises of accused which led to recovery of a total cash of Rs. 2.19 crore (approx) and several incriminating documents. Out of this, cash of Rs. 2.13 crore (approx) along with details of 3 flats in Noida were found at the premises of Chief Engineer (Electrical). Cash of Rs. 6 lakh (approx) along with details of 6 flats in the name of Dy. Chief Engineer & his family members including at Guwahati were found at the premises of Dy. Chief Electrical Engineer.
The arrested accused are being produced today before the Competent Court at Guwahati.
The instant case was registered on 14.12.2021 against Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer (Coaching), NFR, Maligaon Guwahati; Director of a Patna based Private company & his employee and other unknown public servants & private persons. It was alleged that the public servant while posted earlier as Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer (Construction) in NFR had obtained two immovable properties viz. benami flats as alleged illegal gratification from the Director of said private company. It was further alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs. 2.10 crore from the private persons in lieu of said two benami flats for extending undue benefits to him in past and also assured to extend undue favour in future as well. It was also alleged that the private person started transferring the bribe money to the public servant in instalments. CBI laid a trap and apprehended the said public servant & the employee of said Director of private company as soon as bribe of Rs. 15 lakh was exchanged between them.
During investigation, role of Chief Engineer also allegedly come in case and he was also apprehended. Further Investigation is continuing
