In a significant operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two individuals, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Chandigarh Police and a private person, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 54,400 as the first instalment of a total bribe demand of Rs. 1.5 lakh. This action follows a complaint that revealed a scheme involving extortion and abuse of power by the accused police officer.

The case stems from a written complaint lodged by the victim on March 10, 2025, detailing the alleged bribery incident. According to the complainant, there was an ongoing dispute between him and another individual. The accused ASI, stationed at the Police Post, ISBT, Sector 43, Chandigarh, approached the complainant with information that a private individual had filed a complaint against him in a Chandigarh Court. The ASI informed the complainant that the court had requested a report from him regarding the matter.

Taking advantage of his position, the accused ASI then demanded a bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakh in exchange for providing a favourable report to the court. After negotiations, the accused agreed to accept Rs. 54,400 as the first instalment of the bribe amount.

The CBI swiftly swung into action, setting up a trap to catch the accused red-handed. On March 11, 2025, both the Assistant Sub-Inspector and the private individual were arrested for demanding and accepting the bribe payment. The arrested individuals are scheduled to be produced before the Special Judge, CBI, Chandigarh, on March 12, 2025.

In addition to the arrests, the CBI also conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused, uncovering further evidence related to the case.

The investigation is still ongoing, with the CBI continuing to gather more information to ensure that justice is served and to uncover any additional details about potential involvement in corrupt activities.
