(Judicial Quest News Network) Justice KS Puttaswamy, a former judge of the Karnataka High Court and the lead petitioner in the historic right to privacy case, has passed away at the age of 98. Justice Puttaswamy, who enrolled as an advocate in 1952, was appointed as a judge of the Karnataka High Court in 1977 and served until his retirement in 1986. He later served as the vice-chairperson of the Central Administration Tribunal in Bangalore. In 2012, Puttaswamy famously challenged the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar scheme before the Supreme Court. Although the apex court did not strike down the scheme, it made a landmark ruling that recognized the right to privacy as a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Constitution. This significant judgement has had a lasting impact on the interpretation of the right to life in India

(Judicial Quest News Network) The City Civil & Sessions Court in Mumbai has sentenced two individuals, includingPrasidh Narayan Dubey, the former Superintendent of CGST, Mumbai, and his wife, Smt. Vimla Dubey, to imprisonment for 2- years and a cumulative fine of Rs. 2 lakh in a high-profile disproportionate assets case. Shri Prasidh Narayan Dubey has been sentenced to four years in prison with a fine of Rs. 1 lakh, while his wife, Smt. Vimla Dubey, received a two-year imprisonment sentence accompanied by a Rs. 1 lakh fine. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case on February 20, 2018, based on source information, revealing that Shri Prasidh Narayan Dubey possessed assets amounting to Rs. 90,90,908, which were disproportionate to his known income by 77.18%. The investigation covered the period from June 17, 1994, to February 23, 2018. After thorough investigation, the CBI filed a charge-sheet on December 23, 2020. Subsequently, charges were framed on June 16, 2022, and the prosecution examined 100 witnesses to substantiate the allegations. The court, upon concluding the trial, found both accused guilty and delivered the sentences accordingly.
