Bimal Julka appointed CIC

Information commissioner Bimal Julka was appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) ON Friday, according to Rashtapati Bhavan communique.
The President of India administered the oath of office to Shri Bimal Julka as Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission at a ceremony held today (March 6, 2020) at 1015 hrs. at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The office of the CIC had been lying vacant since the retirement of former CIC, Sudhir Bhargava on January 11,2020. With Julka’s appointment, the office of CIC has reached the strength of six, as against the sanctioned strength of 11 members.
The Statutory body, set up under the Right To Information Act in 2005, has been functioning without a chief after Sudhir Bhargava retired on January 11,2020.
According to the CIC website, the positions held by Julka in the past include:
- Director, Department of Industrial Development, Ministry of Commerce and Industry
- Commissioner, Public Relations, Government of Madhya Pradesh
- Director, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India
- Commissioner, Gwalior Division, Madhya Pradesh
- Joint Secretary (G/Air), Ministry of Defence, Government of India
- Resident Commissioner, Government of Madhya Pradesh, New Delhi
- Additional Secretary and Director General (Currency), Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, New Delhi
- Additional Secretary/Special Secretary and Financial Adviser, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India
- Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.
- He has been participating in various important fora pertaining to Media and Entertainment Sector organized by Industry Associations like CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM, etc
