Bar Council of India Issues Warning Regarding Fake Notification on Mandatory Minimum Fees for Advocates
(Judicial Quest News Network)
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has issued a strong warning regarding the circulation of a fraudulent document falsely attributed to the Council. The document, titled “Official Notification – Mandatory Minimum Fee Structure for Advocates in India,” dated February 15, 2025, misleadingly claims to introduce a mandatory minimum fee structure for advocates, set to take effect on March 1, 2025.
The Bar Council of India emphasizes that this document is entirely bogus, created with the intent to deceive the public and the legal community by masquerading as an official directive. Key signs of the document’s falsification include the absence of an official signature, proper reference numbers, and procedural documentation. Furthermore, it features the suspiciously vague phrase “No Signature Required,” a tactic commonly used in fraudulent activities to avoid verification.
By misappropriating the name and address of the Bar Council of India, the document attempts to falsely convey a sense of legitimacy, thereby misleading both the public and legal professionals. The purported mandatory fee structure is entirely baseless and is intended to confuse and cause harm to the reputation of the Bar Council and its role within the legal profession.
Circulating such false information constitutes a criminal offense, and the Bar Council of India has already begun legal proceedings to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the creation and dissemination of this fraudulent document.
The Bar Council of India urges the media and public to immediately cease circulating or publishing this false document. The media is strongly advised to verify the authenticity of any such documents directly with the Bar Council of India before reporting.
The Bar Council remains committed to protecting the integrity of the legal profession and ensuring that any misinformation or fraudulent activity is met with strict legal consequences.
