Bar Association of India Condemns CBI Raids on Jaising, Grover terms it an ‘Assault on independence of Lawyers

The Bar Association of India has issued a statement condemning the recent CBI raids on the offices of Indira Jaisingh and Anand Grover as “excessive, disproportionate and unjustified”.
In the recent past CBI had searched the residences and offices of Senior Advocates Indira Jaisingh and Anand Grover.
On June 13 the Agency had filed an FIR against the president of Lawyers Collective (Anand Grover) alleging the violation of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.
The Lawyers Collective, a voluntary group famous for raising the human rights issues in the courts.
The FIR was registered after the Apex court issued a notice in a PIL filed by an NGO “Lawyers Voice” demanding probe against irregularities in the financial transactions of the “Lawyers Collective “
The CJI-led bench issued notice in the PIL for an SIT probe into “deliberate inaction” and non-registration of FIR against the senior Advocates Indira Jaisingh, Anand Grover.
Apex court had also said that NGO “Lawyers Collective’s. license to receive foreign funding be cancelled.
Ms. Jaisingh termed this development as “Victimization”
Owing to MS.Jaisingh’s stringent and public objection in which sexual harassment complaint of a former apex court employee against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi was dealt with.
The Bar Association of India issued a statement on Monday terming the CBI’S action as “an Assault on independence of lawyers engaged in constitutionally protected activities of advancing rights and upholding the rule of law”
“The CBI raids appears to be based on a 2016 Ministry of Home Affairs report, now under appeal in Bombay High Court and without any material change in circumstances since its release”
The Bar Association of India’s Meeting was presided by Dr. Lalith Bhasin, President BAI and attended byMr. Prashant Kumar, President-elect, BAI,Mr. Uday PrakashWarunjikar, Vice-Presdient BAI, among others.
