Afzalgunj Police Busts Inter-State Gold Scam Gang; ₹40 Lakh Cash Recovered, Kingpin Arrested

Hyderabad, June 23, 2025 — In a major breakthrough, the Afzalgunj Police apprehended the leader of an inter-state gang involved in diversion and cheating tactics under the guise of selling gold at half price. Acting on Crime No. 177/2025, under Sections 318(4) and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police arrested the accused near CBS, Hyderabad, recovering ₹40 lakh in cash and a Hyundai Creta used in the commission of the crime.

1. Jaya Kumar, S/o Balappa, 50 years, Rope Business, Resident of Islam Nagar, Manvi (V&T), Raichur District, Karnataka (Arrested)
2. Uday alias Reddy, S/o Raghavendrappa, 35 years, Rope Business, Mudgal, Raichur District (Absconding)
3. Sandeep alias Raghu, S/o Rayappa, 24 years, Private Job, Janthapur Village, Mudgal, Raichur District (Absconding)

Seizures:

• Net cash of ₹40,00,000
• Hyundai Creta vehicle (Reg. No. KA 33 M 6426)

Modus Operandi: The accused lured unsuspecting victims with offers to sell “original gold” at half price. Under this pretense, they conducted meticulously planned diversions and escapes after swapping genuine cash with fake gold bundles filled with stones and sarees.

Case Summary: On May 12, 2025, a complaint was received from Mr. Munukuntla Niranjan, a real estate businessman from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District, alleging that he was cheated of ₹65 lakhs. He and his associate Dharmender were misled into meeting the fraudsters for a gold deal, only to later discover that they had been handed a bag filled with imitation items. Efforts to contact the fraudsters failed, revealing the deceit.

Following the incident, a dedicated team launched an in-depth investigation despite minimal initial clues. Through the use of CCTV footage, technical analysis, and field inquiries, the team successfully identified and apprehended the prime accused.

Investigation Team & Recognition: This case was cracked under the close supervision of Dr. B. Bala Swamy, IPS, DCP East Zone; Mr.J. Narsaiah, ADCP East Zone; and Mr. M. Mattiah, ACP Sultan Bazar Division. The arrest was made by the Afzalgunj PS team, including SHO Mr. N. Ravi, DI Mr.B. Ravi Kiran, DSI Mr.P. Ram Kishan, and crime staff HCs Mr. Md. Yaseen Shareef, Mr.Srikanth Bidla, and PCs Mr.J. Jitender, Mr.Mohammed. Suleman, Mr.G. Srikanth & Mr.Vishal Kumar.
