A Landmark Meeting: A.P. Advocates’ Welfare Fund Committee Disburses Over ₹6 Crores in Assistance

On October 18, 2024, the Andhra Pradesh Advocates’ Welfare Fund Committee convened under the leadership of Mr. Nallari Dwarakanatha Reddy. The meeting addressed a crucial agenda: reviewing pending applications for death benefits from the nominees of deceased advocates and requests for financial medical assistance.

Joined by Committee members Mr. Muppalla Subba Rao and Sri P. Narasinga Rao, along with representatives from the Hon’ble High Court and the Law Department, the committee made significant financial decisions.

Highlights from the meeting include:

  1. Death Benefits:
    1. 88 families received ₹4 lakhs each, totalling ₹3.52 crores.
    1. 47 families received ₹5 lakhs each, totalling ₹2.35 crores.
  2. Medical Assistance:
    1. 24 advocates received ₹11.5 lakhs for medical needs.
  3. Retirement Benefits:
    1. Six advocates were granted ₹11.86 lakhs.

In total, the committee approved a remarkable ₹6.10 crores in assistance to support advocates and their families. Notably, this meeting marked the first time in the fund’s history that all pending applications for death benefits and financial aid were resolved.

With the recent increase in the death benefit cap from ₹4 lakhs to ₹5 lakhs effective April 1, 2024, many families have greatly benefited. Chairman Reddy also urged the Andhra Pradesh government to expedite the release of matching grant funds for the families of deceased advocates, ensuring timely support for those in need.
