Legal Fraternity’s Contribution In Freedom Struggle, Framing Of Constitution Reflects In Outstanding Constitution and Flawless Law: CJI NV Ramana

Chief Justice of India NV Ramana on Monday bemoaned the swindling number of lawyers in the Parliament.
CJI was speaking at function organized by the Supreme Court bar Association (SCB) to felicitate Senior Advocate Jagdeep Dhankar who is recently appointed as Vice President of India.
CJI said that on every occasion I keep mentioning about the great contribution made by our legal community in our freedom struggle and in framing of the Constitution, the house was dominated by legal professionals. As a result, we got outstanding constitution and flaw less laws. Now a day a number of lawyers have dwindled and that space is taken by others.
He also highlighted how the freedom struggle, Constituent Assembly which drafted the Constitution and the parliament in its initial days, had a significant chunk of lawyers as a result of which the Constitution and laws enacted were flawless.
The CJI in his speech also touched upon the Vice-President’s humble beginnings.
He used to walk six kilometers from his village to attend his school. All through, he maintained live contact with his roots. Simplicity and hard work, which are synonymous with rural life, are his constant companions.
It is on the strength of our democracy that Shri Dhankhar ji could reach the second highest office in the country, in spite of hailing from rural background and without political father or Godfather. His elevation is a tribute to our healthy democratic traditions and rich constitutional values. It is testimony to the fact that our progressive Constitution provides opportunities to all, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, region and financial status.
