India Today Group Files A Defamation, Copyright Infringement Suit in Delhi High Court Against News Laundry Seeking 2 Crore Damages.

TV Today Network (TVTN) has filed a Suit before the Delhi High Court against the digital news platform News Laundry and its Founder Directors etc. Google, Facebook and Twitter are also Defendants in the suit.
The suit seeks permanent and mandatory injunction against News laundry, it’s CEO Abhinandan Sekhri and others alleging that News laundry had uploaded various videos on its website including social media platforms thereby infringing TV Today Network’s copyright by making ‘unfair ’untrue and disparaging defamtory remarks about its anchors as well as the managements has alleged defamation, commercial disparagement and copyright infringement against the said entity. The suit seeks for permanent injunction as well as damages for a sum of ₹. 2 Crores. The suit has been filed by TVTN through its lawyers Hrishikesh Baruah and Pranav Jain.
The suit alleges that copyrighted material of TVTN has been infringed by News Laundry without any authority. They had already approached You Tube for the copyright infringement. You Tube has suspended the You Tube account of News Laundry. You Tube as per its policy has also struck down some of the Videos. The other Videos are under review. The said suit is likely to come up before the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi on 28.10.2021.
Search engine Google and social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter have also been arraigned as defendants to the suit.
The have also approached the YouTube for copy right infringement Subsequently, the YouTube account of the News laundry was suspended.
Some Videos uploaded by News Laundry were taken down by You Tube citing policy. Other videos are under review.
In these videos and articles. The Defendant no 1 to 9 consistently denigrate, deprecate, ridicule and derogate the news broadcast of the plaintiff’s news channels as well as anchors who have hosted such news broadcasts. These false and derogatory statements published by the said defendants have lowered the reputation of the plaintiff in the eyes of the right-thinking members of the society.
The suit further adds that “films and sound recordings of Plaintiff for the role purpose of making their own program more interesting, attractive or enjoyable and are therefore deriving benefit from using the said works at the cost of the Plaintiff’s exclusive rights in the same and are therefore infringing upon the copy right of the plaintiff in the said original cinematography films and sound recordings.
The case filed by TVTN is likely to come up for hearing on Thursday.
