Kishore Datta Resigns as Advocate General of West Bengal

Advocate General of West Bengal Kishore Datta Resigned from his post citing personal reasons. Marking an end to his nearly 4 years long tenure he was appointed as Advocate General of West Bengal in Feb 2017, after his predecessor barrister Jayanta Mitra had stepped down before completion of his tenure due to differences with the government. Datta sent his resignation letter to West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Tuesday and the same was accepted.
“I do hereby tender resignation as the Advocate General for the State of West Bengal with immediate effect owing to personal reasons “the resignation letter said.
The copy of the letter had also been forwarded to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal and the Minister-in-Charge of the department of Law and Justice.
The news was first reported by Jadeep Dhankhar Governor of West Bengal.
The sources in the High Court of Calcutta said that he was upset with the unwanted assimilations by the high-profile advocates of the Supreme Court in state matters, at the behest of the government of West Bengal.
There were several occasions where differences of opinion were seen between Datta and State Government. High profile Advocates like Abhishek Manu Singhvi as well as Sidharrta Luthra were hired by the State Government to defend accused ministers.
