Former Manipur HC Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul Files Nomination for SCBA President

New Delhi, August 6, 2026: Senior Advocate Siddharth Mridul has formally entered the contest for the post of President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), submitting his nomination papers ahead of the association’s forthcoming elections.[1]

Mr. Mridul, who previously served as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, filed his nomination on Thursday, marking the beginning of his electoral bid to lead the premier body representing advocates practising before the Supreme Court of India.

The former judge brings with him extensive experience from both the Bench and the Bar.

Prior to his appointment as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court in October 2023, he served as a judge of the Delhi High Court.

His judicial tenure concluded in November 2024, after which he returned to legal practice and resumed his work as a Senior Advocate before the Supreme Court.

His decision to contest the SCBA presidency is expected to attract considerable attention within the legal community, given his long association with constitutional and appellate judicial work, as well as his experience in the Supreme Court’s legal environment.

The SCBA plays an important role in representing the interests of members of the Supreme Court Bar, raising professional concerns, and engaging with issues affecting the administration of justice and the legal profession.

The SCBA elections are scheduled to take place on August 18, 2026. With the nomination process now underway, the contest is likely to witness increased activity among members of the Supreme Court Bar in the days leading up to polling.
