20th Conviction in Coal Block Scam: Delhi Special Court Sentences Director to 3 Years RI

Delhi, 13, January,2026- In a milestone ruling for the long-standing “Coalgate” investigation, a Special CBI Court in New Delhi has convicted and sentenced M/s SKS Ispat & Power Ltd. and its top executives for fraudulent practices in the allocation of the Rawanwara North Coal Block.

Delivered on January 12, 2026, the verdict handed a three-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to the company’s Director, Deepak Gupta, along with a ₹10 lakh fine. Authorized signatories Satya Narain Dwivedi and Amrit Singh were sentenced to two years and one year of imprisonment, respectively, while the firm itself was slapped with a 50 lakh penalty.

The judgment represents the 20th successful conviction obtained by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the extensive coal block allocation scandal, underscoring the judiciary’s resolve to punish corporate deceit and the unlawful exploitation of national resources.

 Deepak Gupta, Director of M/s SKS Ispat & Power Ltd., has been sentenced to three years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of ₹10 lakh. Satya Narain Dwivedi, the company’s Authorized Signatory, has been awarded two years of RI and fined ₹20,000, while fellow Authorized Signatory Amrit Singh has received one year of RI with a fine of ₹10,000.

Additionally, the Court has levied a penalty of ₹50 lakh on the private company, M/s SKS Ispat & Power Ltd.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case on 04.08.2014 against the above-mentioned accused.

The allegation was that the accused company, M/s SKS Ispat & Power Ltd. and its director/authorised signatories had made false and misleading claims in the application and feedback forms regarding the financial net worth, production capacity, land in possession of the company and environmental clearances, with a view to securing the wrongful allocation of Rawanwara North Coal Block.

After investigation, CBI filed Chargesheet on 31.08.2016 against accused M/s SKS Ispat Ltd. (now M/s SKS Ispat & Power Ltd.) through its director; Deepak Gupta, Satya Narain Dwivedi, and Amrit Singh.

The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the above-mentioned accused, accordingly.
