Hyderabad, December 19 – NALSAR University of Law has announced the appointment of former Chief Justice of India, Justice B. R. Gavai, as the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair Professor on Constitutional Law and Social Inclusion. In his new role, Justice Gavai will spearhead research, teaching, and academic initiatives focused on constitutional law, access to justice, and social inclusion.
To ensure the smooth establishment and effective functioning of the newly instituted Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair on Constitutional Law and Social Inclusion, NALSAR University of Law has brought on board distinguished experts from the fields of law and academia. The University has appointed Dr. Anurag Bhaskar, noted academician and former Director of the Centre for Research and Planning at the Supreme Court of India, as Visiting Adjunct Professor of Law and Director of the Chair. In this capacity, Dr. Bhaskar will play a pivotal role in shaping the intellectual and institutional framework of the Chair, overseeing its research agenda, teaching programmes, and collaborative initiatives aimed at deepening scholarship on constitutional law, access to justice, and social inclusion.
Complementing this effort, the University has also appointed Senior Advocate K. Parameshwar as Adjunct Professor. With his extensive experience in constitutional litigation and public law practice, Parameshwar will contribute significantly to the Chair’s academic, research, and outreach activities. His involvement is expected to strengthen the Chair’s engagement with the legal profession and policy-making circles, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical application. Together, these appointments reflect NALSAR’s commitment to building a robust platform for advancing constitutional values and promoting inclusive legal education.
The Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Chair on Constitutional Law and Social Inclusion has been established with funding from the Government of Telangana. The University will soon launch the Chair’s activities, including recruiting a dedicated research team, initiating thematic research projects, academic programs, policy studies, and public engagement efforts aligned with its mandate.
The ceremonial act of appointment was duly consummated today, when the Vice Chancellor of NALSAR University, Professor Shri Krishna Deva Rao, formally tendered the letter of appointment to Justice B. R. Gavai at his residence in New Delhi. The solemnity of the occasion was further graced by the presence of Justice P. S. Narasimha, whose attendance lent weight and dignity to the proceedings.
