President Droupadi Murmu to Address NHRC Human Rights Day Function in New Delhi

Delhi,5, December, 2025: In a major national observance of constitutional values and global human rights commitments, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India will host a grand function to commemorate Human Rights Day at Auditorium 1, Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, at 10:00 am on 10 December 2025. The event will be graced by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, who will address the gathering as the Chief Guest, underscoring the nation’s reaffirmation of the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)—one of the most influential and widely referenced documents in the world since its adoption on this day in 1948.
Adding intellectual depth to the commemoration, the NHRC will convene a National Conference on ‘Ensuring Everyday Essentials: Public Services and Dignity for All’, featuring Dr. P. K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, as the Chief Guest. The conference will bring together eminent speakers who will deliberate across two intensive thematic sessions, examining how access to essential public services forms the backbone of human dignity in a democratic society.
The Commission, in its endeavour to foster broader public engagement, has facilitated online registration for prospective attendees, with electronic invitations accessible until 10:00 a.m. on the 9th of December, 2025. This convocation shall serve as a pivotal forum wherein policymakers, human rights advocates, and the citizenry may collectively deliberate upon India’s trajectory in human rights protection and reaffirm their shared obligation to uphold the pillars of justice, equality, and freedom.
In observance of Human Rights Day, a National Conference themed “Ensuring Everyday Essentials: Public Services and Dignity for All” is concomitantly convened. This initiative harmonizes with the overarching Human Rights Day motif for the year, “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials.”
The keynote address shall be graciously delivered by the Chief Guest, Dr. P. K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. The conference, structured into two thematic sessions, will rigorously examine the critical necessity of guaranteeing universal, equitable, and dignified access to public services—an essential prerequisite for the realization of human rights in their fullest measure. Distinguished speakers of eminence will elucidate upon these imperatives throughout the proceedings.
State Human Rights Commissions, other national commissions and officials from both Government of India and States/ UTs, human rights defenders, civil society organisations, members of academia, professionals, representatives of print and electronic media, among others, are expected to participate.
