TGHRC Conducts Official Inspection of Gandhi Hospital under Statutory Mandate

Hyderabad, 6, November,2025-In pursuance of its statutory mandate under Section 12(c) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, the Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) conducted an official visit to Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad, today at 2:00 PM.

The inspection was led by Dr. Justice Shameem Akther, Chairperson, accompanied by Smt. Sivadi Praveena, (Judicial), and Dr. B. Kishore, IAS (Retd.), Member (Non-Judicial). They were joined by senior Commission officials, including Smt. A.N. Kanthi Wesley, IAS, Secretary & CEO, Sri B.V.A. Vijay, Deputy Registrar-cum-PS to Chairperson, Sri P. Srinivas Rao, Public Relations Officer-cum-Administrative Officer (FAC), and Sri Ramulu, DSP.

Upon arrival, the Commission was cordially received by Dr. Vani, Superintendent, Gandhi Hospital, along with senior medical officers, resident medical officers (RMOs), other doctors, and local police officials, including the Station House Officer and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chilkalguda Division.

The Commission undertook a comprehensive inspection of various hospital facilities. Beginning with the Emergency Ward, the Members interacted with the attending medical and nursing staff regarding the availability of essential medical care, patient inflow, and emergency response systems. The team subsequently visited the Geriatric Department, Paediatric Department, and the Paediatric Surgery Wing, among other sections, assessing the standards of care and patient management systems in place. Relevant hospital records were also examined to ascertain compliance with administrative and procedural norms.

Following the inspection, a press briefing was convened in the Superintendent’s Chamber, wherein Hon’ble Chairperson Dr. Justice Shameem Akther addressed the media. He elucidated the purpose of the visit, emphasizing the Commission’s continuous oversight of public health institutions to ensure the protection of patients’ rights and maintenance of human dignity in healthcare delivery.

Expressing overall satisfaction with the functioning of the hospital, the Hon’ble Chairperson lauded the dedication of the medical and administrative staff. He made special mention of the Paediatric Surgery Department, commending its exemplary service and commitment to child healthcare.

The Chairperson extended appreciation to the hospital administration, doctors, nursing staff, and support personnel for their cooperation during the inspection and their continued service to the public.
