Bengaluru, 02, Aug, 2025- In a landmark verdict, a Bengaluru Special Court has sentenced former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna to life imprisonment for the rape of a 47-year-old woman, a domestic worker employed at his family’s farmhouse.
On Friday, Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat convicted Revanna on all charges in the rape case.
Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, was found guilty under Section 376(2)(k) of the IPC, which pertains to repeated sexual assault. The court also imposed a ₹10 lakh fine.
The survivor was assaulted multiple times—at the farmhouse in Hassan and at the family’s residence in Bengaluru.
Revanna allegedly recorded videos of the assaults, which later surfaced online, prompting public outrage and multiple FIRs. The survivor attempted suicide after the videos went viral. Revanna was arrested in May 2024 upon returning from Germany and has been in custody since.
This is the first conviction among four cases filed against him for sexual assault.
The SIT is investigating three cases registered against Prajwal and he is presently in judicial custody. The SIT had arrested Prajwal at the Bangaluru Airport on his arrival from Germany on May 30 last year. He was arrested in Crime No. 107/2024, registered with Holenarasipura Town Police Station.
The prosecution presented video evidence, voice matches, and testimony from 26 witnesses, leading to the conviction. Despite Revanna’s plea for leniency, citing his political career and academic record, the court emphasized the gravity of the crime and the abuse of power.
