NHRC Seeks Answers as School Building Tragedy Kills 7 Students, Injures Dozens

The Commission has issued notices to the State Chief Secretary and the Superintendent of Police, Jhalawar, requesting a comprehensive report on the incident within two weeks

Delhi 26, July,2025-The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report concerning the collapse of a government school building in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district on 25th July 2025, which tragically resulted in the deaths of seven children and injuries to 28 others. According to reports, local residents had previously alerted district authorities to the deteriorating condition of the school building, citing administrative negligence. However, no remedial action was reportedly taken.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of human rights violation. Therefore, it has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan and the Superintendent of Police, Jhalawar, calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.

The report is expected to include the status of health of the injured students as well as compensation, if any, paid to the next of kin of the deceased.
