Justice Shameem Akhter Takes Charge as Chairman of Telangana Human Rights Commission

Hyderabad, April 17: In a significant development for the state’s human rights landscape, Justice Shameem Akhter officially assumed office as the Chairman of the Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TSHRC).

A former judge of the Telangana High Court, Justice Akhter brings with him a wealth of judicial experience and a strong reputation for fairness and integrity. His appointment is expected to strengthen the commission’s mission to protect and promote human rights across the state.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the commission’s office in Hyderabad in the presence of senior officials, legal luminaries, and dignitaries from the judiciary and civil society.
Justice Akhter is known for his insightful judgments and deep understanding of constitutional law. His leadership is anticipated to bring renewed focus to addressing issues such as custodial violence, gender-based discrimination, and the protection of marginalized communities.

Joining Justice Akhtar on the SHRC bench are Sivadi Praveena, a retired selection-grade district judge, who has been appointed as the judicial member, and K. Kishore, a retired IAS officer, appointed as the non-judicial member
The Telangana State Human Rights Commission plays a vital role in safeguarding citizens’ rights by investigating complaints of rights violations and advising the government on policy matters related to human dignity and justice.
