The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended three individuals, including the Chief Depot Material Superintendent (CDMS) and a Ward Officer from the Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Raebareli, along with a private individual, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a complainant, a promoter of a Mumbai-based company.

According to the CBI, the officers demanded the bribe in exchange for approving the supply of safety spectacles that the complainant’s firm had submitted in response to an online tender issued by MCF. Following the submission of a bulk order, the complainant reportedly received numerous calls from the accused public servants demanding payment for the approval of his materials. After ignoring these requests, he subsequently received a rejection letter for one of his items on August 28, 2024, and further calls urging him to pay the bribe.

The CBI set up a sting operation during which the complainant transferred Rs 30,000 via G-Pay to the private individual as instructed by the accused officials. Both MCF officials confirmed receipt of the bribe, leading to the arrest of all three in Raebareli. They were subsequently presented before the Raebareli Court, which granted them transit remand. They were later brought before the Special CBI Court in Mumbai, where they were remanded to police custody until October 11, 2024.

Searches conducted at the residential and official premises of the accused in Raebareli resulted in the recovery of incriminating documents. The investigation is ongoing.
