Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Knocks Delhi High Court Against Shyam Meera Singh for Defamatory Videos

Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has knocked the doors of Delhi High Court against a Journalist and youtuber Shyam Meera Singh for a video he uploaded on YouTube on December 17, 2023, the video was titled as “How Gurmeet Ram Rahim fooled his bhakts? The video’s thumbnail read, “RamRahim ka asli sach (Ram Raheem’s real truth). In the video, Singh described the jail sect leader’s rise as the chief of the Dera Sacha Sauda and mentioned the allegations of rape and murder against him.
Advocate Rajat Aneja appeared for Ram Rahim and argued that Shyam Meera Singh is a habitual offender and though a legal notice was served to him, he refused to delete the video.
“He [Shyam Meera Singh] used to be a journalist with Aaj tak but he was fired for insulting the prime minister” Aneja told the court.
A FIR has also been lodged against him in Uttar Pradesh for insulting the state’s Chief minister.
Advocates Kapil Madan, Gurmukh Singh Arora, Saurabh Gauba and Manu Garg appeared for Shyam Meera Singh and contended that the video was based on a 2018 book written by another journalist named Anurag Tripathi and that Ram Rhim has not made a party to the suit.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to 20 years Imprisonment in 2017 for raping two of his women disciples at the Dera Sacha Sauda head quarters in Sirsa District. In 2021, he and four others were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder of Ranjit Singh, a former manager of his sect.
The suit has been filed through Advocates Shriya Chanda, Rajat Aneja argued the case.
