5G Network Roll Out: Delhi High Court Proposes to Reduce Rs 20 Lakh Fine to Rs.2 Lakh Imposed on Juhi Chawla If She ‘Does Some Good Work to Society’
(Judicial Quest News Network)
Delhi High Court on Tuesday suggested to reduce the costs imposed on Juhi Chawla over her suit against 5G, only if Chawla does some good to the society.
The court said that Chawla’s status can be used for the “good of society” and therefore she will have to do some public work which could involve featuring in a programme for the Delhi State Legal Services Authority. (DSLSA)
A Division Bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh agreed to reduce the cost on her petition which was imposed 7 months earlier.
Senior Advocate Salman Khurshid appearing for Chawla argued that this is a very peculiar situation and the petitioner had raised a genuine concern on the impact of the 5G technology on human body.
Khurshid argued that technology has created a major concern in the United States where there is a debate going on about the problem that 5G is creating on aviation by interfering with aeroplane communication devices.
The court asked her to involve herself in a programme for Delhi State Legal Service Authority (DSLSA).
Juhi Chawla’s Plea on 5G
Earlier in June last year the Delhi High Court had imposed a cost of Rs20 Lakhs on Juhi Chawla and dismissed her suit observing that the suit was filed to garner publicity noting that she had circulated the weblink on the hearing on social media.
The court had observed that no case is made out for granting permission to institute the suit or to sue in representative capacity as the suit is defective and not maintainable. The plaint is stuffed with unnecessary, scandalous and frivolous averments.
Last week, the Delhi High State Legal Service Authority (DSLSA) had approached the Delhi High Court seeking execution of the order direction Chawla to deposit the money.
The Delhi High Court issued notice to Secretary DSLSA and listed the case for further hearing on January 27.
